Return to Ravnica

Last weekend I played the pre-release for Return to Ravnica. It went very well. I decide to use Rakdos for my guild, The logic being that to my knowledge not many people play Rakdos. As it turns out almost everyone used Izzet or Golgari, Why I don't know but more on that later. I was 2-1 on my first game and 1-2 on my second and third, I almost won the second one but a stroke of luck on my opponents part just barely let them beat me. I could have stayed for a forth match but it was getting late and I did not have any shot at first prize. All things considered I did well keeping in mind the fact that I did not get many good cards. I for one am looking forward to drafting the new set and am eagerly awaiting the release of Gatecrash.

Sidenote: I think people like Izzet and Golgari so much has to do with the duel decks of them that were released a bit before the set came out. Don't get we wrong though, They are good guilds, People just overvalue them.

I'm Back!

Well, 4 days of bliss are at an end. My family has gotten home from Halifax and as such my peace is over for now.
And now for a summary of what I did: Nothing! I sat around and played Minecraft for four days in a row! I did go to the draft on Saturday and once again I did not draft anything good, I have decided to skip the next draft or two and see if that will make a difference.

This week I drafted blue, That turned out to be a big mistake. The two guys on either side of me were also drafting blue and as such they took all the good cards before I could get the chance to draft anything. It sucked. The only rare I managed to draft was a Void Stalker though I did manage to trade a Master of the Pearl Trident from my collection for two copy's of Lotus Petal. A lot of people under value the Petal just because it's not as broken as Black Lotus or the Mox cards, Of course it's not as broken! If is was any stronger it would be restricted. If your deck is anything other than dredge and does not benefit from a few petals you are doing something wrong.

When I draft I often build my deck around my first pick, As such I try to make my first pick a rare. This week I first picked a Serra Avenger. Then I began to draft a B/W Exalted/Control deck. I was lucky enough to draft four copy's of Pacifism, Two copy's of Duress, Two copy's of Disentomb and a O Ring, All of witch proved to be very useful. I played 8 games against 3 opponents. My first foe used a life gain deck witch was rather annoying, I would spend a turn or two doing damage to her and she would cast Angel's Mercy and gain it all back. Despite that I won 2/0 with 17 seconds left on the clock. During my first match I used a Servant of Nefarox enchanted with Mark of the Vampire to gain 20 life.
My second foe was a lot stronger, Using a elf powered Sands deck he managed to mill me to death once but  my Avenger beat him twice. My third foe ended my wining streak though, He used W/U flyers. I did manage to beat him once but in the end I lost.
All in all It was very successful, I would have liked to have won a bit more but I had a good time and that's what matters. I also managed to trade my Avenger and two other rares for a Primeval Titan.

So I just took a personally test to determine what colors I would be in Magic and this is the result:

I kind of disagree with the assessment but as it turns out black and blue are the colors I use the most.
